Qatar’s permanent delegation at the United Nations has hosted a reception on the occasion of the UN General Assembly’s meeting on achieving sustainable development goals through working on limiting climate change.
Qatar’s Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi, UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, General Assembly president Mogens Lykketoft and Qatar’s permanent representative to the United Nations, HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bint Saif al-Thani attended the reception.
In a speech during the ceremony, the minister said the environment was one of the pillars of sustainable development. He stressed that climate change was one of the main priorities of Qatar, evident by its hosting of theUnited Nations Climate Change Conference (COP18).
He highlighted the projects that the state had launched to face the threat of climate change.
Other officials who attended the ceremony were the Samoa prime minister, the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP 21) president and the chief executive officer of Development Bank of Southern Africa.
