Ahead of the big kickoff to the Qatar Cup on April the 24th, QSL online has decided to look at the top 4 sides goalkeepers. To see if the four shot stoppers can hold the key to success for their respective side.
We start with Al Rayyan goalkeeper Omar Bary who was a regular for Al Rayyan as they stormed to the QSL falcon shield for the first time in 21 years. Bary was one of the stars for Al Rayyan in the title run-in. The keeper went on a seven game of not conceding a single goal. Infact, out of the four stoppers he conceived the least amount of goals this term. A strong shot-stopper and good distribution are the hallmarks of the Qatari international keeper.
El Jaish have an excellent goalkeeper in Khalifa Abu Bakr who was brilliant with his team both domestically and abroad in the AFC Champions League 2016 where he contributed to the qualification to the round of 16.
Khalifa is one of the first names on the teamsheet for Sabri Lamouchi, and rightly so. The Qatari stopper only conceded 29 goals this season. Khalifa is a tall and flexible stopper, who has strong reactions. Key saves over the course of the season meant that El Jaish finished second in the QSL. Sabri Lamouchi will be relying on the powerful stopper to help Jaish lift the Qatar Cup for the second time.
As for Al Sadd, they started the season relying on Saad al-Dossari, who excelled and over the season. However al-Dossari is now injured for the Qatar Cup meaning that Sadd will turn to Muhannad Naim for the final four competition. Muhannad also presented good performance has plenty of potential to become number one at Al Sadd.
Al Sadd conceived 38 goals this season during the league. Despite conceding plenty of goals in the domestic season, Naim has plenty of experience of big games, which will be needed if Sadd are to progress to their first ever Qatar Cup final.
Finally Lekhwiya who have stopper Claude Amine, the one choice for the Qatar National Senior Team. He participated in most of Lekhwiya’s games in the QSL and the AFC Champions League this term.
Lekhwiya conceived 41 goals this season in QSL. Despite that high number of goals, Claude Amine is the safety block behind Lekhwiya’s defence lines and he is looking forward to maintain the Qatar Cup title.
Will one of these keepers push their sides to glory in the Qatar Cup? Time will tell when these four giants of Qatari football clash on the 24th and 25th of April at Al Sadd stadium.
