There has been a reduction of 14% and 17% respectively in the consumption of electricity and water over the last four years since the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) launched its Tarsheed campaign.

According to a corporation statement which was released, the fourth annual celebrations of Tarsheed would be held on Sunday at Doha Sheraton Hotel in the presence of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, Minister for Energy and Industry Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada and Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari.

Tarsheed campaign, aimed at reduction in the use of electricity and water, is held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.

The celebration is held this year under the slogan “Tomorrow starts Today” and in partnership with Aamal and Doha Cables.

The campaign made an effective saving of about QR800mn until 2015, reducing carbon dioxide emissions and consumption of gases.

Through the celebration, Kahramaa will announce its further strategies, projects and achieved targets for the ongoing massive programme.

Kahrama will felicitate those winners (individual and corporate) who have been selected under various categories for their entries in a number of competitions held by its Conservation and Energy Efficiency department.

Tarsheed, through its multi-folded strategies and programmes, aims at reaching all segments of the society to create awareness for conserving the precious resources. It motivates the whole society to work together, contributing to the envisaged goals and ambitions of the Qatar National Vision (QNV) 2030.

Kahramaa has also signed a number of MoUs with various kinds of organisations to implement its objectives and help inculcating conservation culture among masses with its message “Keep Qatar Pulsing”.

The prime target of the Tarsheed is to reduce the per capita water and electricity consumption by 35% and 20%, respectively by 2017.
