Environment Intersection on Al Khafji Street was opened for traffic on Sunday after being converted from a roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection.
The remaining sidewalk pavement works are expected to be completed next month. The opening of the Environment Intersection comes as part of the works on Al Khafji Street Development Project. This is the third phase of the project which includes converting Environment Roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection and the expansion of Al Khafji Street from three to four lanes.
The first and second phases of the project were completed, and they included converting Al Hazm and Al Jelaiha roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections.
Al Khafji Street Development project is part of a series of vital projects implemented by Ashghal to improve and enhance the network of local roads and expressways, and enhance the traffic safety across the country.
The road enhancement works include converting roundabouts to signal-controlled intersections, installing Intelligent Transportation Systems, street lighting, and pedestrians’ paths.
