The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has held a polio outbreak simulation exercise in co-operation with the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean.
Around 45 health practitioners involved in work on combating transmittable diseases have taken part in the workshop.
The practitioners are employees of Hamad Medical Corporation, MoPH, Primary Health Care Corporation and private health facilities. They were equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to handle an outbreak of polio and also shown how to deal with those affected.
Sheikh Dr Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, director of MoPH public health department, said the workshop was part of WHO’s efforts to declare the world polio-free in the coming years. He also noted that the last confirmed polio case in Qatar was registered in 1990.
