She may be topping all the surveys but Senator Grace Poe is not resting on her laurels with only a month to go before election day.
In the latest Bilang Pilipino-Social Weather Stations (SWS) mobile survey, Poe got 34% of the “votes.”
The senator also kept the lead in a recent survey of Pulse Asia with 28%.
But despite her high ratings, Poe said she has no time to relax.
“My rivals are also strong and survey results change. I will not be surprised if tomorrow they will be on top. We have to work more,” she noted in an interview in Cebu.
With four more weeks of campaigning, the senator said anything can happen.
“We saw what happened in 2010, someone won the vice presidential race and his candidacy for the vice presidency picked up speed only two weeks before the elections,” she added.
The senator was apparently referring to now Vice President Jejomar Binay, who defeated now Liberal Party standard-bearer Manuel Roxas.
“We have to go around. There are surveys that have me on top, there are others where I am low. The numbers are not consistent. It’s confusing, isn’t it?” Poe further noted.
At this point in the campaign, the lawmaker is confident that she can overcome anything, saying her critics have nothing more to hurl at her that could hurt her candidacy. “My life is an open book. If there’s an issue against me, that will have been an invention. But I can sleep well at night because I do not harbour ill-feelings against my rivals,” she said.
Yesterday, Poe vowed that she will keep the nation’s interest at heart and that she will be tough on criminals.
Peace and order will also be the focus of her administration, she said.
“Women may appear calm but they don’t give up easily in a fight, especially if they are protecting the lives of their loved ones. I will do the same as president, I may be a woman but I have courage, concern and a genuine desire to help the poor,” the senator added.
Poe said that she will not hesitate to visit barangay (villages) to make sure that the streets are safe.
“If there is even one village that is unable to solve the criminality problem and the local government will not act, I will personally go to that village and fix the problem,” she added.
