Qatar Petroleum (QP) president and CEO Saad Sherida al-Kaabi met with employees of Maersk Oil Qatar during a Town Hall meeting on Sunday, and conducted a video conference yesterday with the company’s employees at the offshore facilities of Al-Shaheen oilfield.
Both the Town Hall meeting and the video conference were organised to express QP’s commitment to support the safe and continuous operation of Al-Shaheen oilfield.
Al-Shaheen oilfield is located 80km off Qatar’s shores, and it is the largest oilfield in the country, currently producing at around 300,000 barrels of oil per day.
The existing exploration and production sharing agreement with Maersk Oil Qatar that governs the operation of Al-Shaheen field will expire on mid-2017. Last year, QP issued invitations to a group of leading international oil and gas companies to participate in a competitive evaluation process, with the successful company being selected for the field’s future operation and development. Maersk Oil Company is among the companies invited.
QP announced at the time that the selection of the partner will be based on its ability to offer the best technological solutions for the field’s development combined with the best financial return to the State of Qatar.
In his speech to the employees of Maersk Oil Qatar, al-Kaabi signalled QP’s intention to offer continuity of service to people who are contributing to the success of Al-Shaheen operations. He also expressed QP’s appreciation for the role that the employees have played in the development of Qatar’s largest oilfield over the past 23 years.
Al-Kaabi said: “QP’s aim is to provide continuity of service to the people contributing to the success of Al-Shaheen operations. QP supports those serving the development of Qatar and as the heart of Al-Shaheen, naturally, you will have a place in its future. We should not lose focus of the safety and continuity of operations, which are at the cornerstone of our objectives.”
Following his speech, al-Kaabi led an open Q&A session where he answered questions from Maersk Oil Qatar employees.
The events were attended by Maersk Oil Qatar’s employees, including managing director Lewis Affleck and deputy managing director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani.
Al-Kaabi was accompanied by the corporation’s executive vice-presidents and other members of the management team.
