AlBahie Auction House will hold its inaugural auction of Islamic and Orientalist art at Katara – the Cultural Village on April 5.
The auction will offer works such as Holy Qur’an and manuscripts, Orientalist paintings and sculpture, enamels, a large selection of arms and armour, glass, fine furniture and Indian period jewellery, according to a press statement.
All 240 artworks from the upcoming auction are currently on display at the auction house’s permanent space in building 22C, Katara.
The preview exhibition is open every day, from 9am to 9pm, up to the day of the live sale on April 5.
AlBahie has advised those interested in bidding on works from the sale to register ahead of time for the auction by e-mail to [email protected] or calling 44080534/44080535.
Representatives are available to provide additional information such as condition reports on the items in the sale and help guide anyone unfamiliar with the auction and bidding process.
“AlBahie has made it easy for anyone to bid at the auction as the bidding can be done in four ways: in person at the live auction, online via the website, www.albahie.com, by telephone bidding, or by leaving an absentee (or maximum) bid,” the statement noted. “If you choose to bid live during the auction in the saleroom, once you have registered you will receive a paddle and can then bid on any lot in the sale by simply raising your paddle when the lot opens.” The auction can be followed live online on albahie.com and Internet bidding is a convenient and easy method of bidding from home. Internet registration should be done prior to the start of the auction.
“Telephone bidding is another way to participate during the live sale by having a representative from AlBahie call you when your lot is up for bidding. Telephone bidding will be done in Arabic, English or French and bids should be submitted up to 24 hours prior to the auction,” the statement added. Anyone not available during the live auction can leave an absentee bid, or maximum bid, and the auctioneer will execute an absentee bid at the lowest possible price.
Absentee bids should also be submitted prior to the start of bidding.
The live auction kicks off at 4pm on April 5 and is free to attend and open to all. Print catalogues are available by request to [email protected] as well as in the showroom.
