For the first time ever, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Medical Research Centre (MRC) has been assessed and accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), against a new set of standards the toughest they have ever used since the JCI was created.
This follows almost two months of rigorous on-site inspections by the internationally renowned independent JCI, which identifies, measures, and shares best practice in quality and patient safety across the world.
MRC is one of Qatar’s leading institutions supporting research and facilitating the generation of new knowledge to create the evidence which can be applied to every day medical practice.
The MRC has grown into a world class facility supporting research with roots in Qatar but whose branches reach out to research and educational institutions across the globe.
Working across all HMC hospitals, the MRC meets research governance requirements and is conducted in accordance with International research standards.
The MRC audits and monitors research and provides administrative and management support to HMC’s Research Strategy and Assurance Committee (RSAC).
“MRC was recently thoroughly examined by JCI inspectors who audited and cross checked our practices against stringent JCI standards, and confirmed we have successfully undergone the rigorous JCI assessment criteria of how we govern and monitor our research as an Academic Health System,” said Dr Ibrahim Janahi, Executive Director of Research at HMC.
“Human subject research is important in creating the evidence base that can be used to drive forward changes in clinical practice, and supports the development of new treatments that have a tangible impact on our patient’s lives,” added Janahi.
MRC endeavours to continue to support Qatar’s research community in conducting innovative and ethical research by providing guidance, education and oversight for the protection of human subjects. The MRC is responsible for the management of research projects in accordance with HMC policies and procedures.
