Companies specialising in manufacturing accessories for the region’s armed forces are setting up their own production facilities in Qatar as more and more local entrepreneurs are exploring opportunities these days.
One of the latest entrants is Sheikh Turki bin Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, a young local businessman who has set up a manufacturing facility for boots used by soldiers and others working in areas of safety and defence.
“My company, Al Sawari Holdings Group, is a 100%-Qatari business enterprise supported by the technical expertise of an Italian firm, which has a good track record in the manufacture of safety shoes and other safety accessories,” the entrepreneur told Gulf Times at Dimdex 2016 yesterday.
Currently, the local firm is producing 2,000 pairs of boots a day and depending on the increase in demand the company would produce more, he said.
The Qatari company is now focusing only on the local market but orders are coming from other parts of the region as well, said another official of the firm.
Similarly, Sur International, a textile manufacturing company in Khartoum, which is a joint Turkey-Sudan venture, has stakeholders from Qatar.
“We are considering to set up a manufacturing facility in Doha in the near future as there is a good demand for our accessories from Qatar and other parts of the Gulf,” an official said.
Besides military uniforms and other apparels for the use of defence, the company is also producing an array of decorations to be fixed on the military uniforms and caps.
