HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met the members of the Qatari-European Friendship Association at the European Parliament yesterday.
They discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on a number of topics of common interest.
The association, which was established in October 2012, includes European MPs from various parties interested in the role of the State of Qatar and its foreign developmental and educational policies.
The main objective of the association is strengthening the relations between the European Parliament in particular and the European Union in general with the State of Qatar in various fields.
Qatar condemns terrorist bombing in Lahore
The State of Qatar has strongly condemned the terrorist bomb attack which rocked a crowded park in Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore on Sunday, leaving scores dead and injured.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement yesterday that such criminal acts that target innocent lives do not represent Islam or its principles of tolerance.
The State of Qatar reaffirms full solidarity with the government and people of friendly Pakistan, the statement underlined.
The State of Qatar expresses sincere condolences with the government and people of Pakistan as well as the families of the victims, wishing those wounded a quick recovery, the statement added.
Advisory Council holds meeting
The Advisory Council yesterday held its weekly regular meeting of the 44th ordinary session, chaired by HE the Speaker Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi.
At the outset of the meeting, HE the Secretary-General of the Advisory Council Fahad bin Mubarak al-Khayareen read out the agenda which was agreed upon. Then, the Council endorsed the minutes of its previous session.
The Council discussed the report of the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee on a draft law amending some provisions of Law No 8 for 2002 on regulating work of commercial agents, and decided to submit its recommendations to the Cabinet.
Meanwhile, the Advisory Council’s Financial and Economic Affairs Committee yesterday held its first meeting during the Council’s 44th regular session under its rapporteur Mohamed Ajaj al-Kubaisi.
The committee completed a general debate request presented by a number of members on doing business and selling via electronic sites in Qatar and decided to submit its report thereon to the Advisory Council.
Cadillac ATS models recalled
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in collaboration with Mannai Trading Company, has announced the recall of Cadillac ATS models of 2013-2016 due to sunroof ‘tilt’ and ‘slide’ switches not being recessed properly.
The MEC said the recall campaign comes within the framework of its ongoing efforts to protect consumers and ensure that car dealers follow up on vehicles’ defects and repair them.
The MEC will co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on the maintenance and repair works and communicate with customers to ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out.

Indian embassy Open House on Thursday
The Indian embassy will hold an Open House on Thursday to address any urgent consular and labour problems of Indian nationals in Qatar.
The Open House will be held from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. Written information on issues/cases proposed to be discussed with the embassy may be submitted from 5.30pm to 6pm.
This will be followed by meeting with embassy officials from 6pm to 6.30pm.
Camera installation on Al Fazaa patrol cars begins
The communications department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has started installing surveillance cameras on Al Fazaa patrol vehicles, local Arabic daily Al Sharq reports.
According to the daily, the cameras are the “first of their kind in Qatar” and can capture moving images of what is happening on roads that the Al Fazaa vehicles are patrolling.
The cameras are to be directly connected to the Ministry’s operations room and will enable the staff on duty there to get a detailed picture of an accident.
Similarly, in case of a fire or some other incident, the person in charge at the operations room will get the details with the help of the surveillance cameras and take necessary action, such as sending ambulances or fire trucks.
