Al Meera Consumer Goods Company has signed an agreement to build six new stores out of the 14 planned with a total contract value of nearly QR239mn as part of its expansion strategy for 2016 and beyond.
The contracts have been awarded to Al Muftah Contracting Company and Al Khayarin Group Contracting and Trading. While Al Muftah is to build four of the new Al Meera shopping centres, Al Khayarin will construct the other two. Al Rayan Partners will provide the project management services for all the six stores.
Dr Mohamed Nasser al-Qahtani, deputy CEO of Al Meera signed the agreement with Khalid A al-Muftah, finance director of Al Muftah Contracting Company and Mohamed Idrees Anwar, CEO and managing partner of Al Khayarin Group Contracting and Trading.
Al Muftah is to work on the shopping centres in Rawdat Aba El Heran, Azghawa, Leabaib and Umm Qarn, while Al Khayarin will work on establishing the new centres at Al Khor and Sailiya.
“Al Meera has started construction works in five branches of the 14 from last year in Sailiya North (Al Miarad), Leabaib 2, Al Wakrah (west), Umm Slal Ali and Bu Sidra, expecting the completion within the next three months,” Dr al-Qahtani said.
“Our expansion plans are a result of a well-researched strategy to march with Qatar’s urban plans, as well as to drive the company’s future growth,” he explained.
The Al Meera official expressed confidence that the new stores will be equipped with “world-class technologies and solutions, and will continue to serve customers in different areas of the country”.
Khalid al-Muftah said the four new stores shall be built to the highest standards, using the latest equipment and will live up to Al Meera’s motto of being consumers’ “favourite neighbourhood retailer”.
Al Khayarin’s Anwar said the two new state-of-the-art shopping centres to be built by his company for the country’s leading supermarket chain will reflect Al Meera’s innovation and modernity benchmarks and will be up to its customers’ expectations.
