Featuring artworks from the 20th century and those created on the spot, the ‘Greek art and orientalism’ exhibition, jointly organised by the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, the embassy of Greece and curator Marilena Koutsoukou, opened on Sunday at Building 18.
The exhibition that continues until March 30 highlights the interaction of Arabic and Greek cultures and is inspired by the images and the spirit of the East.
The works are by Greek artists who are being constantly inspired by the tales of the Middle East, and its contemporary culture.
They are Giannis Poulios, Dimitris Tiniakos, Aptin Aptinian, Artin Artinian, Anthonis E Theodoridis, Nikolaos Magiasis, George Panoutsoulos and Paris Alexander Prekas.
Katara’s deputy director for Operations Affairs Ahmad al-Sayed described the exhibition as an illustration of the historic and cultural ties between east and west. The event highlights the impact of the Arabic and Islamic culture on others’ cultures’ arts, literature and architecture.
Greek ambassador Ioannis Metaxas said the event reflects the strong historic links between the Greek nation and the Arab world since antiquity.
