Qatar, Japan firms look to strengthen their business ties

The Qatar Chamber (QC) hosted yesterday “Japan Electronics Technology Forum for Sustainable Development” which gathered a number of Qatari businesspersons with their Japanese counterparts, currently visiting Doha.
A large number of major specialised Japanese companies took part at the event to introduce their various technical solutions services in Qatar in fields such as telecommunications, metro and railways. Accordingly, the representatives of such companies will get introduced to the available investment opportunities in Qatar and explore the potential of making active partnerships with local companies.
The visiting delegation was welcomed by QC vice chairman Mohamed Ahmed bin Tuwar in the presence of Masafumi Ohki, director at Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and Shingo Tsuda, Japanese ambassador.
“I am also glad that the bilateral relations between our countries in the political, trade-economic, cultural and educational fields continue to progress in a positive and considerable manner,” Tuwar said.
He said, “Qatar and Japan have had a long distinguished history of strong economic relations; they are further working hard to upgrade the level of cooperation in various fields such as culture, education, health, sport, science and technology. They intend to build multi-layered relations that go beyond energy and that extends to further cooperation and promotion of investments and mutual partnerships.”
Meanwhile, he told the participants at the forum that “plenty of opportunities for investment and mutual business cooperation between Qatari and Japanese companies and businessmen are significantly available” at all levels and sectors. Both countries are hosting two big international sporting events- Tokyo Olympics, which will be held in 2020 and FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. These two events will be a big motivating factor to both nations to closely cooperate with each other in order to ensure their success as host countries.”
He further affirmed that QC strongly supports establishing mutual beneficial relations between private sectors and businessmen in both countries for the best advantage of both economies, especially in the technological sphere.  
Similarly, Ohki expressed his hopes that the forum would result in more active partnerships between Japanese and Qatari companies, in particular at the major infrastructure projects.
