Qatar has officially nominated Cultural Adviser to HH the Emir Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari to the post of director-general of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), which is supposed to fall vacant by November 2017.
This came during a reception hosted by Qatar’s permanent envoy to Unesco Ali Zainal at the organisation’s headquarters.
The permanent envoy delivered a speech in which he highlighted the important milestones of the rich career of Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari, who has experience at the international level, given the many positions he has assumed throughout his career as ambassador of Qatar in Paris, Washington and several Latin American countries, in addition to serving Qatar’s envoy to the United Nations, and representative to Unesco.

Qatar yesterday stressed its firm policy aimed at eliminating all weapons of mass destruction and banning their possession. Addressing the 81st Session of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in The Hague yesterday, Brigadier Hassan Saleh al-Nesf, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee on Arms Embargo said Qatar expressed concern about the programme of dismantling Syria’s chemical weapons, in particular the gaps in Syrian announcements.

HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi has appointed a number of department directors at the ministry.
According to the decisions issued by the Minister, Dr Aziza Ahmed al-Saadi was appointed director of policy and educational research department, Ibrahim Rajab al-Kuwari was named director of student information centre, Ali Abdulrazek Hussein Maarafi became director of the international co-operation affairs department, Fahad Ali Ahmed Abdullah al-Naama was named director of the student assessment centre, Hassan Abdullah Youssef al-Mohammadi was appointed director of the public relations department, Omar Abdulaziz Hussein al-Naama became director of the school evaluation centre, Hessa Youssef Mohamed al-Aali was appointed director of the educational training and development centre, and Dr Abdulaziz Ali al-Saadi became director of health and safety department.
