The Qatar Financial Center (QFC) has collaborated with PartnerRe, a leading global reinsurer that provides multi-line reinsurance to insurance companies, to foster talent development in the (re)insurance sector in the region.
In this regard, they welcomed for the first time students from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region to attend a series of activities at MultaQa Qatar, which concluded yesterday and saw around 300 experts from 30 countries attend.
The students were selected on the basis of an essay writing contest, supported by the Qatar Central Bank; the QFC; Global Reinsurance, leading industry publication; and PartnerRe.
The theme of the essay competition “The region’s future economic growth will be limited unless insurance penetration increases” was launched at select universities across the region.
A panel of experts from the QFC and PartnerRe reviewed the submissions, and the shortlisted graduates were invited to attend the MultaQa Qatar Connect session, the event’s gala dinner and the Middle East and North Africa Leader’s Forum.
“As a Qatari organisation, we are proud to be part of such a worthy initiative. As we celebrate MultaQa Qatar’s 10th edition, we must continue to look at ways to engage with the regional community, and the launch of this online essay competition for the very first time is further evidence of the untapped potential in the region,” QFC Authority chief executive Yousuf Mohamed al-Jaida said.
The QFC remains committed to encouraging bright graduates in Qatar and the region to pursue a career in the finance and business industries, to ensure the region sustains a long-term growth, he said.
“As a reinsurer, PartnerRe is delighted to support young professionals in the region so that they can develop into the future leaders of our industry. With this new initiative, we aim to build awareness of the many interesting opportunities a career in (re)insurance can offer this next generation of talent,” Salvatore Orlando, head of High Growth Markets at PartnerRe, said.
