Qatar Rail is taking part in the GCC Traffic Week which started yesterday at Darb Al Saie. The celebrations will continue until March 17.
The rail firm is supporting the important initiative as part of the company’s contribution to the Qatari society, according to a communique which said once completed the integrated railway system will play a major role in reducing traffic congestion in the country.
Qatar Rail Chief Corporate Support Khalifa Hassan al-Jehani said: “Qatar Rail is committed to supporting important national initiatives, particularly those which help safeguard the well-being of our society. We are proud to participate in the Traffic Week as it is a great opportunity to create awareness about road safety and help promote the country’s continued effort to reduce road accidents.”
Al-Jehani said Doha Metro and the Lusail Light Rail Transit are landmark projects for the country and they will help reduce traffic congestion significantly on Qatar’s roads.
 “Today’s journeys on Doha’s roads are unpredictable because of its huge volume of traffic. Once completed, Qatar Rail’s projects will provide a safe and reliable alternative mode of transport which will improve people’s quality of life, and with fewer cars on the road and different travel habits we hope the traffic accidents will also be reduced.”
The GCC Traffic Week represents the ongoing collaboration adopted by GCC States in their attempt to eliminate traffic accidents and attain the highest levels of road safety as well as providing an opportunity for participants to exchange information and continue to working towards achieving the desired road safety objectives.
During the event there will also be a military parade, police canine show, classic and modern car exhibition, traffic village for children and stage performances by school students.
