A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a man to three years in jail for possession of unlicensed firearms and using it for criminal activities.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported that the defendant was also convicted of breaking into the house of others, causing some damage, firing some shots at the vehicle of another person, and resisting arrest by firing at a police vehicle that followed him.
The issue started when the defendant accompanied two other persons and went to the house of another person and tried to break in, claiming that the brother of the house owner owed him something and he wanted to claim it back.
When the house owner did not allow him in, the defendant fired some shots at the vehicle of former's brother parked outside the house. When the house owner called the police, the defendant tried to flee in his vehicle, which had no number plates. However, police vehicles managed to spot him and followed him asking him to stop, but he fired at them to hinder his arrest.
Eventually, he was arrested and besides the verdict the court ordered the confiscation of the weapon and ammunition used in the crime.
