Rayyan municipality, including Sheehaniya, have come at the top of the municipalities for the number of building permits issued in February.
Rayyan topped with 194 permits. The figure came to almost one-third of the total building permits issued in the month, according to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
Doha municipality came second (156 permits, 25%), and Al Da’ayen ( 85 permits 14%) and Al Wakra (73 permits, 12 %) were in the third and fourth positions.
The building permits data is significant as it is considered an indicator of the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy and a main pillar for the basic infrastructure of many other activities, it said.
The announcement is intended to give a brief overview of the nature of these monthly permits in terms of their geographical distribution (according to the municipalities) and types of these permits (buildings, additions, fencing) as well as details about categories of the different types of buildings, whether they are residential or non-residential.
The monthly data comes under the joint co-operation between the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to make use of the existing electronic link between the two ministries.
The data indicates that the new building permits constitutes 56% (343 permits) of the total building permits issued during February while the percentage of additions permits constituted 41% (249 permits), and finally fencing permits with 3% (18 permits).
Permits for the villas top the list, accounting for 67% (198 permits) of all new residential buildings permits, followed by dwellings of housing loans by 19% (57 permits) and apartment buildings by 10% (29).
On the other hand, industrial buildings, namely workshops and factories, are found to be in the forefront of non-residential buildings permits with 44% (21 permits), followed by commercial buildings with 31% (15 permits), mosques with 13% (6 permits), and government buildings with 8% (4 permits).
The building permits issued in the other municipalities in February were as follows: Umm Slal 44 permits (7%), Al Khor 42 (7%), and Al Shamal 16 (3%).
Similarly, in January, Rayyan had topped the list with 195 permits. The figures for the month of the other municipalities were: Doha (156), Wakra (73), Umm Slal (44), Al Dayyan (85), Al Khor (42) and Shamal (16).

Rayyan also tops in residential building permits

Out of the 295 residential building permits issued in February, Rayyan municipality headed the list in the villa sector with 55 and Doha had 28. The figures for new villa permits in the other municipalities are Wakra (26), Umm Slal (26), Dayeen (47), Al Khor (15) and Al Shamal (one).
In what is being described as the `dwelling of house loans sector', Rayyan issued 30, Wakra 11, and Al Dayeen 12. Doha had only 3, Umm Salal one and Shamal one licence.
However, of the 29 new apartment licences, 22 were in Doha, and two each in Wakra, Dayeen, and Al Khor and Umm Salal one.
In the `others' category, Doha municipality issued 56, Rayyan 88, Wakra 39, Umm Salal 30, Dayeen 61, Al Khor 20 and Shamal one.
