Under the patronage of HE Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad al-Thani, chairperson of Qatar Museums, the AlBahie Auction House was inaugurated yesterday at Katara - the Cultural Village along with events for the Islamic and Orientalist Art auction that will take place on April 5 at Katara.
A first in Qatar and the Middle East, AlBahie seeks to position itself as a leader in the region for the sale of antiques, paintings, watches and clocks, cars and jewellery.
HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Hamad al-Thani said the goal behind opening the auction house was to contribute to the revival of Islamic culture and support authentic Arab and Islamic heritage, praising the support extended by HE Sheikha Al Mayassa and thanking her for gracing the opening ceremony.
The auction house, a new addition to the art scene in Doha, will be the first of its kind in Qatar and the Middle East. The leading art space will host auctions throughout the year. Its main focus will be on antiques and collectibles.
AlBahie will hold its opening auction in Islamic and Orientalist Art on April 5. The auction house will have its permanent location at Katara and hold regular exhibitions leading up to the auctions.
