The General Directorate of Civil Defence has observed World Civil Defence Day with a special programme. The occasion is marked on March 1 every year.
The celebration at the Civil Defence officers’ club, held under the theme “Civil Defence, Latest Information Technology and Media”, was attended by Brig Aman Saad al-Sulaiti, assistant director-general of Civil Defence, along with directors and officers from Civil Defence and other departments at the Ministry of Interior.  
On the occasion, Brig al-Sulaiti said the occasion emphasised the significant role of Civil Defence personnel in preserving lives and properties.
He noted that the theme of this year’s celebration focused on developments in the use of state-of-the-art facilities and equipment for rescue operations. The ministry is keen to have its cadres updated on all modern communication devices to respond at the earliest and also equip all civil service centres in the country with the latest devices, it was observed.
The Civil Defence has held various activities that help extend its communication and co-operation with other civil establishments and authorities in order to raise awareness and ensure security.
A film was shown at the event to showcase the services and operations of the Civil Defence that shed light on the development of the authority in terms of electronics and technology.
One of the participating companies presented a special programme highlighting several modern technologies used by the Civil Defence, such as a simulator for fire extinguisher usage training, as well as in other fields.
Another company displayed a moving chair specially designed for senior citizens and people with special needs, which can be used during emergencies and fires.
Later on, the Civil Defence team - in collaboration with Omar Bin Al Khatab Independent School - staged a special drama that depicted the negative behaviours of some youths and their ill-effects.
Brig al-Sulaiti honoured a number of public and private agencies that supported the Civil Defence as well as students of the school.
