The Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and Quality, Reliability and Maintainability Engineering Centre at Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) held a conference on quality, reliability and risk management.
Titled “Quality, Reliability and Risk Management”, the event was organised in conjunction with Rutgers University. It aimed to address quality measures, reliability tools and risk management strategies adopted by academics, researchers and practitioners to improve productivity and reliability.
Around 50 engineers, researchers and practitioners from the public and private sector came together to discuss, share and evaluate the latest developments and applications in quality, reliability and risk management, and to build academic and research collaboration and partnerships.
The opening ceremony was attended by CENG dean Dr Rashid Alammari, CENG acting associate dean for Academic Affairs Dr Mohammed Samaka, and professor of mechanical and industrial engineering Dr Elsadig Mahdi, as well as CENG faculty, students and staff.
Keynote speakers were CENG mechanical and industrial engineering professor Dr Shaligram Pokharel and assistant professor Dr Fatih Mutlu, Rutgers University Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering Distinguished Prof Elsayed A Elsayed, QP’s head of reliability Vimalendu Bhushan Tripathi, and Maersk Oil Qatar’s reliability leader Chris Davis.
The programme agenda included panel discussions that addressed a wide range of topics related to quality management, engineering process control, quality profile monitoring, reliability optimization, failure mode and effect analysis in oil and gas industry, emerging research and practice in quality assurance, maintainability assessment techniques, risk assessment and control, use of various modeling techniques on quality and reliability
applications, and more.
Dr Alammari said: “This event aligns with the college’s ongoing efforts to actively tackle local challenges and research solutions for issues that are of the interest of the wider community, in line with QU’s mission and vision which are directly linked to Qatar National Vision 2030 and the development strategies.”
