Leicester City will hope to steal a march on their rivals by edging another step closer to what would be a fairytale Premier League title by beating West Brom tonight.
With their closest challengers, Tottenham Hotspur, not in action until tomorrow, victory over West Brom would put them five points clear and pile the pressure on the chasing pack.
Leicester needed a late goal to beat Norwich City on Saturday but manager Claudio Ranieri said he was more interested in results at this stage than pure performance.
“You can’t always play well,” he said after Saturday’s win. “I’d sign today if we can win 11 matches from tonight without playing well. It’s not important now whether we play well or not - it’s important we take points.”
Leonardo Ulloa, who scored the 89th-minute winner, is pushing for a starting place but with Jamie Vardy in such outstanding form, Ranieri has the enviable job of keeping his squad happy.
“Everyone would like to play, but it’s not possible,” he said. “They believe in the project and they believe their teammates are playing well.
“For me it’s important to believe in them because, when I need some changes, they are ready. For this reason I’ve said many times we have a fantastic dressing room.”
Tottenham, alone in second after the weekend, have a trip to sixth-placed West Ham while Arsenal, five points off the pace in third after losing to Manchester United on Sunday, host Swansea.
Fourth-placed Manchester City will now be looking to build on their League Cup victory by pushing for a third title in five seasons, with Liverpool again their opponents tomorrow, this time at Anfield.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side are nine points behind Leicester but the manager said his team would now try to carry the momentum through to the end of the season.
“I am happy to have won a title in February,” he said. “It is important for the trust of team in the way we are working. We are not going to give up on the Premier League—we have to play for another 36 points. All teams will lose points so we will continue, try to win the next game against Liverpool and go until the end.”
Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said they had no option but to pick themselves up and go again.
“Of course we will strike back - 100 per cent,” he said. “For this and the next time we are in a final, you have to feel how it is when you lose.
“We will get better and that’s how it is. We have to go the hard way.  Nothing is easy in this moment, but we can see if we carry on working really hard then there is new light at the end of the tunnel.
“That’s really, really important and that’s what we know. We will stay in the race, there is no doubt about this—but tonight we feel rubbish.”
Manchester United, now just three points behind City in fifth, take on Watford at Old Trafford while at the bottom of the table, Aston Villa host Everton.
Eight points from safety with 11 games to go, things are getting desperate for Villa and manager Remi Garde knows his side will need to be almost perfect to see off Roberto Martinez’s side.
“It’s a tremendously important game for us in midweek,” he said.
“Picking up the three points would be vital for us. The hope is still there.”
Second-bottom Sunderland meet Crystal Palace, third-bottom Newcastle are away to Stoke, Chelsea are at Norwich and Bournemouth face Southampton in the other matches.
