The ‘Discover America Week,’ which concludes today, celebrated the economic, cultural, educational and sports partnership between the US and Qatar on a grand scale.


The US ambassador with a Chevrolet Camaro painted in the colours of the American flag at the event hosted by Jaidah Automotive.

“This week has not only been a ton of fun, it has really shown that the US has come to Qatar and Qatar is travelling to the US in unprecedented numbers,” ambassador Dana Shell Smith said yesterday.  
“Now, more than ever, we are sharing each other’s cultures and sharing in each other’s successes.  Both sides are better off for it,” she said.
The second annual ‘Discover America Week’ is being celebrated by the US embassy in partnership with American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Qatar.
The week has highlighted the diversity and breadth of American goods, services and products.
From a high-level forum for business leaders interested in doing business in the US to a special American Film Showcase, an authentic American Sport Day, exhibits of leading American fashion designers, food and education, the celebration showcased the deep bilateral ties shared between the people of the US and Qatar.  
AmCham Qatar chairman Robert Hager pointed out that commercial ties between the two countries have never been stronger. “We are working alongside our Qatari counterparts to further expand those ties,” he added.
Jaidah Automotive, the exclusive dealer of Chevrolet in Qatar, hosted an afternoon of festivities, including test driving and family activities at the Qatar Racing Club.
The event was graced by the ambassador, Jaidah Automotive director Khalid Samir and several senior management officials from Jaidah Automotive and Qatar Racing Club.
ConocoPhillips’ Global Water Sustainability Centre joined the celebrations by hosting the US envoy for a special tour of its facilities located at Qatar Science and Technology Park in Doha.
The sixth annual golf tournament will take place today at the Doha Golf Club. Until today, the US embassy is hosting a booth in Ezdan Mall outside Carrefour, where visitors can learn about studying in the US, and American tourism.
