A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a GCC man to 20 years in jail and a fine of QR20,000 for drug consumption and dealing, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.
The Drug Prevention Department received information that the defendant was seen by a farm guard in the Mekainas area as he unloaded three cartons from his vehicle and placed them on the ground near the farm. When the guard approached him to find out what was happening, the defendant left the boxes and fled in his car.
However, the guard managed to note down the vehicle’s number and reported the issue to the police. Accordingly, police patrols were able to spot the wanted vehicle at Abu Nkahla.
The guard told the police that when he opened the boxes he found some items wrapped in a strange way. When the police searched the vehicle of the defendant, they found 688 Captagon pills hidden under the driver’s seat, in addition to traces of hashish.
The driver said that he imported them from a neighbouring country for personal use. Regarding the boxes he left outside the farm, he denied owning them. Investigations proved that the boxes contained about 35kg of hashish wrapped in small packages. Eventually, the court convicted him based on the investigations and the testimony of the witnesses.
