The Court of Appeal has confirmed the ruling of the Misdemeanour Court against the defendants in the food poisoning case at Marmara Istanbul Restaurant near the TV roundabout, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

However, the court reduced the fine against the restaurant from QR30,000 to QR15,000 on the charges of offering customers expired foods. The confirmed ruling includes a jail sentence of three months, a fine of QR10,000 and deportation for the manager of the restaurant. Other defendants got a jail sentence of one month and a fine of QR7,000 for each of them.

The Public Prosecution had referred six defendants working at the restaurant, accusing them of causing food poisoning of 20 persons due to their negligence of the necessary health regulations and precautions. Besides, the restaurant was closed by the authorities concerned for two months following the incident.
