With as many as 70 riders in the official entry lists, the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship is set to kick off at the floodlit Losail MX Circuit on February 26-27.
The MXGP of Qatar, which is the only round in the world championship which takes place in the Middle East and under the floodlights, will see competition across MXGP, MX2 and Women’s Motocross categories.
French rider Romain Febvre of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory team will begin his title defence in the MXGP category while Honda HRC Team’s Gautier Paulin will look to go one better this time round.
With the MX2 champion Tom Gasjer of Slovenia making the move to MXGP, the 2015 runner-up, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider Pauls Jonass, is the man to beat in this category.
In the FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship, Italian rider Kiara Fontanesi will try to clinch her fifth World Championship title in a row.
Free practice and qualifying race is scheduled for Friday, February 26, from 3pm to 9pm, and the races will take place on Saturday from 4pm to 10pm.
Entry to the grandstand will be free of cost for the fans, while the price for a two-day VIP ticket is QR1,000 and two-day paddock ticket is QR100.
