Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) marked National Sport Day by providing free medical services to visitors at Katara – the Cultural Village.
More than 250 QRCS officials, staff and volunteers, including secretary general Saleh bin Ali al-Mohannadi, encouraged the youth to exercise and promote healthy living.
Al-Mohannadi said QRCS is one of the Qatari institutions that serves society and meet its needs across the board, providing humanitarian aid locally and abroad.
The QRCS official commended their strong partnership with Katara as evident in many successful joint events and projects. The latest is Katara’s campaign to provide winterisation aid for displaced Syrian families on the Syrian-Jordanian borders.
Competently run by volunteers, QRCS’s corner at Katara saw many activities that included information dissemination stressing the importance of volunteerism and charitable work.
QRCS also competed with other teams in a number of sports activities such as football matches.
Medical officers welcomed visitors and distributed health awareness publications, trained them about first aid and CPR, performed blood sugar/pressure tests for free, and covered the area with ambulance bicycles.
QRCS’ branch in Al Khor also held several health and sports activities at different locations, including Tawasul Heritage Park, Al Khor Residential Complex, and Petroleum Residential Complex.
QRCS deployed some 45 ambulances and 200 medics at different locations throughout the day.
