Ooredoo will be one of the Organising Partners for the upcoming GSMA Fraud and Security Group event to be held from February 2 to 4 at the Marriott Marquis City Centre Hotel in Doha.
The event, which is managed by the GSMA (Groupe Speciale Mobile Association), will gather over 100 international attendees from the telecommunication industries from around the world to discuss the industry management of fraud and security matters related to mobile technology, networks and services.
The main objective of the event is to increase awareness on a variety of fraud areas and provide a forum to discuss solutions for the protection of mobile operator technology, and costumer identity, security, and privacy.
Key topics to be debated include how to protect customers against fraud, detecting and preventing fraudulent access to mobile services, identifying abuses of service terms and conditions, identification of fraud committed while roaming and more.
Ooredoo has sponsored the event as part of its ongoing investment in fraud and scam blocking across Qatar, and is actively working with local technology companies and overseas operators to ensure their customers avoid being victimised by these scams.
Executives at Ooredoo have stressed that the company does not sell or provide external organisations with customer records such as telephone numbers and that customer service representative will never ask for key information such as bank details on calls. Talking about Ooredoo’s growing security methods, Waleed al-Sayed, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo, said: “Our support for this forum is part of our ongoing commitment to raise awareness and protect our institutions, and digital economy in Qatar, from the threat of cyber-attacks and phone call scams. We fully support the GSMA and their vision to ensure an open and trusted environment within which fraud and security intelligence can be shared in a timely and responsible way, and urge our customers to report any fraudulent activity they come across to us.”
Ooredoo has launched a series of technical and security measures to fight fraudulent SMS and call scams that has targeted its customers by changing the way in which they deliver their SMS; implementing a new set-up, which will reduce the number of fraud incidents. Their new advanced filtering system will now have increased control and security for messaging, resulting in a significant reduction in the number of unsolicited SMS messages received, as well as spam.
Moving forward, more tailored SMS security measures will be taken to further reduce unwanted SMS.
