Around 6.5mn sqm have been planted with animal fodder, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday, citing a source from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
The source from MME’s Agriculture Affairs Department explained there is a plan to boost the local production of high quality animal fodder to decrease dependency on imports.
Besides, this will help in developing the local animal wealth. The initiative is part of the programme, adopted by MME and the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to encourage private sector to invest in food production.
An area of nearly 6.5mn sqm have been given to three private companies to cultivate animal fodder.
The project would eventually cover a substantial portion of the local requirement of animal fodder.
