Qatar and Mexico signed a raft of agreements and memoranda of understanding with a view to strengthening bilateral relations following official talks chaired by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and the visiting Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto at the Emiri Diwan on Thursday. 

The session of talks was attended by HH the Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatari ministers and the delegation accompanying the Mexican president.

During the official talk session, the two sides reviewed relations between Qatar and Mexico and ways of enhancing them in all fields, particularly in economy and investment sectors. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the developments in the Middle East, especially the situation in Palestine, Syria and Yemen.

Following the talk session, the Emir and the Mexican President witnessed the signing of the following agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries:

1.The two countries signed an agreement for co-operation in cultural and artistic fields.

2.A memorandum of understanding for co-operation in the energy sector.

3.An agreement for co-operation in the field of education.

4.An agreement for co-operation in sports.

5.An agreement for co-operation and exchange of news between Qatar News Agency and the Mexican news agency.

6.A memorandum of understanding between the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and ProMexico.

7.A letter of intent between the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and the Mexican Foreign Ministry.

Earlier on arrival at the Emiri Diwan, the Mexican president was accorded an official reception ceremony.

Later in the afternoon, the Emir hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of President Enrique Pena Nieto and his accompanying delegation.

The banquet was attended by Qatari ministers and businessmen.

The Mexican president left Doha Thursday evening, wrapping up a two-day official visit to Qatar.

President Enrique Pena Nieto and his accompanying delegation were seen off at Hamad International Airport by HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al Sada, Qatar’s ambassador to Mexico Ahmed Abdulla Ahmed al-Kuwari and Mexican ambassador to Doha Francisco Javier Nambro Cibrian.
