Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani attends the Asian Co-operation Dialogue forum in Kuwait City yesterday
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al- Thani participated in the 10th Asian Co-operation Dialogue (ACD) meeting which was opened here yesterday by the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah.
The meeting was held at Sheraton Kuwait and presided over by Kuwaiti Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohamed Sabah al-Salem al-Sabah.
The forum is discussing expanding joint investments among Asian countries and exploring ways to help fight poverty, improve standards of living and upgrade Asian countries’ competitiveness.
The forum is also discussing the impact of the world economic crisis on Asia in the economic, trade, transport and environment sectors.
The forum, which was set up in 2001, comprises 31 countries besides the GCC.
Meanwhile, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani said that what was going on in Syria was regrettable.
The current bloodshed has to be stopped and reform has to start immediately, he said.
“There should be an immediate action to stop what is going on in Syria, as we see a toll of victims of various ages, including men, women and children.”
He said both sides of the conflict seem to be adamant, stressing that the Arab League has to shoulder its responsibility.
In reference to the forum, he said the idea of turning it into an organisation needed more study, noting that if the dialogue among Asian countries was used in the right manner it would facilitate procedures among Asian countries and increase inter-Asian trade.
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim left Kuwait yesterday evening.
He was seen off at Kuwait international airport by the Kuwaiti prime minister’s adviser Sheikh Salem Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah and Qatar’s Ambassador to Kuwait Abdulaziz Saad al-Fuhaid.
