Amid escalating political tensions in Nepal, UN under-secretary-general Jeffrey Feltman will be arriving in Kathmandu today on a three-day visit, IANS reports from Kathmandu.
Tara Prasad Pokharel, spokesman of Nepal’s foreign affairs ministry, told Xinhua news agency yesterday that Feltman is scheduled to hold meetings with various political leaders.
The visit comes at a time when the government and the agitating Madhesi parties are engaged in intense negotiations to end the more than four-month-old anti-constitution protests in the country’s southern Terai plains.
More than 55 people, including ten police personnel, have been killed in the protests.
