Qatar University College of Medicine (QU-CMED) held an open day in which counsellors from 19 different schools were briefed on college’s programmes, facilities, and
future plans.
The event aimed at showcasing CMED as a first choice for the best students emerging from Qatar’s public and private secondary schools and who wish to pursue a career in the scientific and medical field. It was an opportunity for the counsellors to gain a better understanding of the college and to share their views, questions and comments.
The visitors were welcomed by QU vice president for medical education and CMED dean Dr Egon Toft, and members of the faculty and administrative team who elaborated on various activities of the college.
Dr Hossam Hamdy, adviser to QU president and professor of surgery, outlined the college’s study plan and its international collaboration, while acting assistant dean for student affairs Ghada al-Kuwari discussed its enrollment and admission requirements. Information on scholarships and application procedures was presented by QU scholarships specialist Amani Nuweiser from the Student Affairs Scholarships Office.

The day’s programme also included a tour of the students’ exhibition and the screening of a short video on life at CMED and the personal stories of students in which they discussed why they chose medicine as a career, their experiences and goals as future doctors.
During a tour of the facilities, the counsellors were shown classrooms, study rooms, and skills labs and a demonstration of the equipment by CMED professor of anatomy and medical education and Basic Medical Sciences Department head Prof Marwan Abu-Hijleh.
The programme ended with a presentation by student Fatima al-Mohannadi who expressed her pride in being among the college’s first batch and Qatar’s first future doctors from a national medical college. Fatima discussed her journey at the college and responded to the counsellors’ questions about student life and about choosing medicine as a career path and the CMED as a college.
