The Misdemeanour Court has acquitted an Arab expatriate saleswoman of theft charges, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.

The manager of the shop, where the defendant used to work, had accused her of stealing some money from the shop.

An investigation revealed that the employee had asked for a pay hike, after working at the shop on the same salary for four years, or be allowed to work for another company by giving her a no-objection certificate.

The employer, however, did not to agree to meet any of her demands. She then submitted her resignation and asked to be allowed to return to her home country.

In response, the employer made matters difficult for the woman by accusing her of stealing money from the shop.

However, as there was no evidence to prove this claim, the woman was acquitted.

The court also directed the employer to pay the woman the due amount for the remaining period of her employment contract and allow her to leave the country as she wished, the daily said.
