Qatar University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Environment (MoE) to establish a collaboration in the field of research and the development and training of Qataris in multiple environmental and agricultural fields.
The agreement will help meet the needs of environmental challenges at technical and legislative levels in Qatar to develop effective and appropriate environmental and agricultural solutions.
The agreement was signed by HE the Minister of Environment Ahmed bin Amer al-Humaidi and QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham in the presence of V-Ps, deans and officials from both institutions.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration in a number of co-activities in the field of development, training and education. Both institutions will also collaborate to establish a flexible environment of communication between the research centres, colleges and departments in QU and departments in the MoE.
The agreement also establishes a collaboration in research publication and conducting meetings between experts and specialists to discuss the best methods of activating this collaboration.     
In his remarks, HE al-Hemaidi said the MoU aims at a number of mutually beneficial research activities to find effective solutions for environmental and agricultural challenges. The MoU will also provide training opportunities for Qataris and help exchange experiences between academic and governmental bodies.  
Dr al-Derham said the importance of the MoU lies in the fact that it aims at conserving the environment to achieve sustainable development. During the last several years, QU has started many important environmental initiatives such as the bio-fuel project, research on palm trees and the launch of Janan, which contributes to enriching data in the marine field.
