Vodafone Qatar has been recognised with the ‘Best CSR Initiative Award’ at the third Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility & Awards.
The initiative was held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Saoud al-Thani, governor of Qatar Central Bank and chairman of the Sports and Social Activities Support Fund (Daam).
“The award underlines Vodafone’s commitment to sustainability reporting, which has become a strategic business value, serving as a differentiator in competitive industries and fostering investor confidence and trust,” the company has said in a statement.
In September, Vodafone Qatar launched its first GRI Sustainability Report covering the company’s activities in the 2014 calendar year and following the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) principles of sustainability context, stakeholder inclusiveness and materiality analysis.
The report reflects Vodafone’s consideration of issues important to stakeholders, including customers, employees, governments, regulators and communities where they operate, suppliers, lenders and bondholders, and their equity investment partners.
Dana Haidan, head of CSR and sustainability at Vodafone Qatar, who was also named at the conference as one of the CSR leaders in the country, said: “We’re very happy to have been named for the Best CSR Initiative following our sustainability report, which we have worked diligently to ensure it reflects issues of importance to all of our stakeholders.
“Sustainability report is today a necessity in the overall transparency and governance process of businesses and it puts the limelight on the critical values businesses need to embrace for long-term success.”
Vodafone Qatar’s “ambition is to enable sustainable living for all through operating ethically and responsibly, delivering positive change using our technology, and to contribute to community development in Qatar and around the world”, the statement noted.
