A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced an Asian foreman to six months jail and a fine of QR10,000 for negligence that led to the death of a Pakistani worker.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday that despite being aware that the victim did not have the appropriate license, the foreman allowed him to drive a forklift. The worker died from serious injuries he suffered when the forklift tipped over from a hill and crushed him.

The court also fined the contracting company which employed the foreman, a sum of QR50,000 and ordered that both the company and the accused pay a sum of QR200,000 for the legal inheritors of the deceased as blood money.

Based on the investigations of the incident, the court established that the foreman did not properly discharge his duties. Witnesses also confirmed the incident.
