HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani held yesterday a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Dr Haider al-Abadi.
They discussed developments in the kidnapping of Qatari citizens in Iraq. HE the Prime Minister of Qatar expressed his appreciation to the efforts of the Iraqi government in dealing with the situation. He expressed his hope of securing the release of the Qatari citizens as soon as possible.
For his part, Prime Minister al-Abadi stressed that Iraqi security was working on releasing the Qatari citizens.
Meanwhile, al-Abadi met in Baghdad with Qatar’s Assistant Foreign Minister HE Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi.
Discussions during the meeting dealt with the kidnapping of Qatari nationals in Iraq, where HE Assistant Foreign Minister expressed appreciation of the efforts of the Iraqi government to follow up the matter, hoping that these efforts will contribute to their release as soon as possible.
For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister stressed that the competent security agencies are working hard for their release.
The meeting was attended by Iraqi Interior Minister Mohamed Salem al-Ghabban, Iraq’s National Security Adviser Faleh al-Fayad, and a number of Iraqi officials.
On the Qatari side, the meeting was attended by Qatar’s ambassador to Iraq Zayed bin Saeed al-Kharyeen and the delegation accompanying HE the Assistant Foreign Minister.
