Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) launched a series of 12 animated short educational videos at the World Diabetes Congress in Vancouver, Canada, recently.
The series, funded by Oryx GTL, and created and produced by Chocolate Moose Media, focus on a small group of elementary schoolchildren who are affected by the disease.
The project is part of Oryx GTL’s long-term CSR strategy, which is aligned with Qatar National Vision 2030, and contributes to the human and social pillars specifically, the statement notes.
The videos will serve as a learning tool for children and adults in order to achieve larger awareness about diabetes in general and will also give an insight into how to deal with the disease in specific ways.
“These shorts contain valuable information and act as an educational guide for policymakers, school administration, educators and parents. (They) will also support in understanding the needs of children with diabetes and promoting the rights of children with diabetes in the schools,” said Dr Abdulla al-Hamaq, head of QDA, which will widely and freely distribute the series via multiple platforms, including mobile technology.
Diabetes is now a major health threat worldwide with 4.5mn people dying of it in 2015 and 600mn predicted to contact it by 2035.
With the incidence rising dramatically in the Gulf states, QDA believes that educational material is a positive preventive method that can make a noticeable difference to the lives of youth by investing now in their future.
