The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has cancelled the licence granted to a well-known store at Landmark Mall to offer discounts for violating the terms and conditions.

The outlet has also been fined a sum of QR18,000 for setting prices higher than those advertised by it for items displayed. Pictured is an official putting up a notice in this regard.

The move came as part of an inspection campaign conducted by the MEC in the local market to ensure compliance with consumer laws and regulations. Accordingly, the MEC warned outlets that have been granted discount permits to provide real discounts in accordance with the licence conditions and avoid fraudulent practices such as mock discounts or any malpractices that could harm consumer rights.
