Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will hold the second International Qatar Foot and Ankle Conference on December 12 and 13 at the Sheraton Doha. The conference is expected to gather more than 300 local and international healthcare professionals, including surgeons and nurses in the field of orthopaedics.
Dr Mohammed al-Ateeq al-Dosari, director of the Bone and Joint Centre at HMC, said that at least 10 internationally renowned foot and ankle surgeons from countries such as the United States, Germany and Canada will participate in the
conference.
The experts include Dr Donald Bohay, Dr Tim Daniels, Dr John Anderson, Dr Anish Kadakia, Dr Lin Sheldon and Dr Kai Olms. They will make presentations on the latest and most important types of treatments and surgeries in the field of orthopaedics and foot and ankle medicine.
Dr al-Ateeq added that all local orthopaedic and foot doctors from many different hospitals in Qatar are expected to participate in the conference. The conference will also see the participation of professionals working in other medical specialities relating to orthopaedic and foot surgery, including physiotherapists, and specialists in sports medicine from sports clubs and from Aspire and Aspetar Hospital.
The conference will highlight the latest scientific findings in the area of flatfoot and clubfoot surgery and ankle injuries and fractures, as well as new techniques in the treatment of foot and ankle deformities.
According to Dr al-Ateeq, a group of doctors from HMC, Aspetar and Sidra Medical and Research Center will make presentations on important foot and ankle topics and also share the research they have undertaken in this field.
Dr Mohamed Maged Mekhaimar will speak about setting of heel bone fractures and Dr Hasan al-Fahel will speak on flatfoot, a condition in which the foot has an arch that is lower than usual. Dr Nader El Said will speak on foot deficiencies. From Aspetar Hospital, Dr Pieter D’Hooghe will speak on sports injuries to the ankle and foot, and Dr Rod Wikley will conduct a workshop that will deal with physiotherapy. From Sidra, Dr Jason Howard will speak on the treatment of foot and ankle deformities resulting from nerve injuries, while Dr Graham Buirski will speak about the use of ultrasound in the diagnosis of foot and ankle injuries.
