Qatar Media Corporation and Maersk Oil Qatar officials with other VIPs after the launching of the two documentary films.

Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) and Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) launched two documentary films at the 9th International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC) yesterday to highlight their co-operation through varied and far-reaching social investment programmes.
The two films — the Qatar whale sharks research project, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, and the GO ROBOT programme, which aims to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education together with the College of North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) and the Supreme Education Council (SEC) — will be aired on Qatar TV this month.
The documentaries, which focus on projects under the education and environment pillars of MOQ’s Action for Qatar social investment programme, were launched in the presence of QMC chief executive officer Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad al-Thani, MOQ executives and VIPs, including MOQ deputy managing director Sheikh Faisal bin Fahad al-Thani and Qatar TV director of programmes Mubarak al-Awammi.
Sheikh Abdulrahman said: “This is the start of a nucleus we celebrate in this inauguration, which comes within the framework of Qatar Media Corporation’s quest towards strengthening the role of partnership with the private sector in the state. Such a partnership leaves a positive outcome with regard to increasing the level of community awareness in environmental protection and education. We hope that this launching would encourage other companies from the private sector to follow this example of co-operation.”
He added: “The social investment projects detailed in these documentaries highlight Maersk Oil Qatar’s persistent efforts and leave a strong legacy that would benefit present and future generations.”
Sheikh Faisal said: “Maersk Oil Qatar is strongly-committed to Qatar for generations to come. Our success has come from a strong local partnership model that meets local needs. Our responsibility and passion lies also in caring about the country we operate in. In the future, we will continue to support the country’s growth and development, working towards the fulfilment of the Qatar National Vision 2030.”
One of the films launched at the IPTC is the second phase of the documentary, which describes the highlights of the Qatar Whale Shark Research Project completed in 2015 by the Ministry of Environment and the Maersk Oil Research and Technology Centre (MO-RTC).
Qatar’s offshore environment is rich in biodiversity. As Qatar’s largest offshore oil producer, Maersk Oil is committed to understanding and preserving the environment for Qatar’s future generation. One of the world’s largest aggregations of whale sharks has been observed in and around the waters of the Al Shaheen field since 2007 but little has been known about why they gather there every year.
The second documentary focuses on the National Robot Olympiad and World Robot Olympiad hosted in partnership with MOQ, CNA-Q, and SEC this year. The two events were part of the GO ROBOT programme and the culmination of MOQ’s ambitious commitment to support the development of Qatar’s STEM skills and capacity for generations to come, by investing in the young people of Qatar.
The film tells an engaging and compelling story about the broad impact of STEM education on the lives of students.
More than 3,500 participants took part in the WRO competitions, which was hosted in Qatar for the first time and held under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
