Qatar University (QU) is ranked number 90 in the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2016. The announcement was made by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings recently
The inclusion of Qatar University in the THE BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings is a significant achievement, meaning it is one of the top 200 institutions in the 48 countries included in the rankings.
The ranking includes only institutions in countries classified as emerging (“Advanced Emerging”, “Secondary Emerging” or “Frontier”) including the Brics nations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
Hence QU’s place in this ranking of the best research-led universities in the developing world is a significant achievement.
The BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings examine each university’s strengths against all of its core missions - teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Universities are ranked using the same 13 rigorous performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings. The methodology is however recalibrated to better reflect the characteristics and development priorities in developing economies.
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham said: “We are pleased to see the fruits of our commitment and dedication to quality education and to steering the organisation in the direction of world-class standard in research, teaching, international outlook, and in our strong links with industry. THE World University Rankings editor Phil Baty said: “The 2016 BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings use the same 13 rigorous and demanding performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings, so institutions have to demonstrate high standards of performance across teaching, research, international outlook and industry links. We also only rank the very best universities from a highly competitive field of 48 emerging economy countries - so to make the top 200 list is a great achievement in itself and Qatar University should be heartily congratulated.”
