Al Khalij Commercial Bank (Al Khaliji) has once again partnered with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) for a workshop targeting current students and new graduates.
The bank’s initiatives are in line with its career programme and its continuous drive to help shape Qatari youth into the country’s future leadership, according to a statement.
Held on the university premises and hosted by Al Khaliji Group CEO Fahad al-Khalifa, the workshop offered attendees in-depth insight and information around the Qatari banking and finance sector at large, as well as Al Khaliji’s evolution, talent development programmes and future plans.
“The workshop served as a networking platform, offering students exposure to future employment opportunities and career prospects, and Al Khaliji access to dynamic, ambitious and prominent talents. The workshop extended Al Khaliji’s talent recruitment and transformation programme, which offers students and employees cross-functional exposure, sustainable career advancement opportunities and continuous competency development at the bank,” the statement said.
Commenting on the occasion, al-Khalifa said: “We thank Carnegie Mellon University and its faculty for graciously hosting this event.  It was a great opportunity to connect with future graduates and allowed us to harness the talents of these students.”
Ilker Baybars, dean and CEO of CMUQ, said: “Al Khaliji’s commitment to fostering young talent shows students the practical side of the theory they learn in the classroom, which is a crucial element to the Carnegie Mellon Qatar experience.”
Upon joining Al Khaliji, new recruits are taken through a week-long induction programme and are then enrolled in a rotation system across departments for a period of six to 12 months, during which they get an in-depth understanding and overview of the bank’s various departments.
On a personal growth level, Al Khaliji offers employees mentoring, coaching and classroom training, enabling them to hone specialised skills and guiding them in mapping out career advancement opportunities that are best suited for their capabilities.
Also under the programme, university students wishing to enter the field are provided with a host of internship opportunities at Al Khaliji that help direct them toward future career choices.
