Two Indonesian maids have been awarded a suspended sentence of one year each and deportation by a Doha Criminal Court for stealing jewellery, mobile phones and expensive watches of their sponsor.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Sunday that the convicts stole the property of the lady who employed them and her mother.

The employer told her husband about the missing articles and that she doubted the two maids.

So he reported the matter to the police, who searched the bags and belongings of the maids to recover the lost articles.

However, the maids claimed that most of the articles were either given to them as gifts by their employer's brother or found discarded in the house.

But the brother denied giving them any gifts.

Accordingly, the court established their guilt based on their possession of the stolen movable property, the daily added.
