Qatar University (QU) has signed a five-year agreement with the University of Malaya (UM), Malaysia for collaboration in education and research.  
The agreement was signed by QU vice president and chief financial officer, Dr Humaid al-Midfaa and UM vice-chancellor Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamed Amin Jalaludin in the presence of QU vice president and chief academic officer Dr Mazen Hasna, QU College of Shariah and Islamic Studies (CSIS) dean Dr Yousuf Mahmoud al-Siddiqi and UM Academy of Islamic Studies (API) director Prof Dato’ Dr Mohamed Yaakub Zulkifli bin Mohamed Yusoff, and other officials from both sides.
Under the agreement, QU CSIS and UM API will organise joint academic and research activities, and facilitate opportunities for student, faculty and administrative staff exchanges. The agreement also covers sharing of publications, reports and other academic materials and information between the two institutions.
Dr al-Midfaa said: “We are pleased to partner with the University of Malaya in this initiative which aligns with QU’s ongoing efforts to advance its research capacity and provide students with an environment of vibrant research activity that motivates them to realise their full potential. This underlines the organisation’s commitment to developing collaborations with local and international institutions, and promoting quality education and research in Qatar and the region.”
Dr Jalaludin said “as a leading research university in the country, University of Malaya is well-positioned to actively spearhead cutting-edge research projects with our many international partners. We continue to collaborate with QU as we learned of the great potential in its research capacity and its commitment towards the development of its academics and students.”
Dr al-Siddiqi said: “Academic and research activities emerging from this agreement will enrich the college’s curriculum, and facilitate collaboration in scientific research, faculty exchange and supervision of graduate projects. It will also provide CSIS students with wide-ranging opportunities to develop their skills and abilities in their journey to becoming the future generation of leaders in Qatar, and contributing to the country’s aspirations towards a knowledge-based society.”
