Dr Eyad Masad
Dr Eyad Masad, vice-dean and professor of mechanical engineering at Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq), has been appointed holder of the Zachry Professor in Design and Construction Integration II.
Dr M Katherine Banks, vice-chancellor and dean of engineering at Texas A&M University, made the appointment based on Masad’s “exceptional record” as a researcher and educator, according to a
statement.
Masad also has a joint appointment on the main campus as a professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering. Professorships help give universities a competitive edge by providing funds to attract and support top
faculty, the statement notes.
“Dr Masad’s record as a teacher, researcher and administrator is without comparison,” said Dr Mark H Weichold, dean and CEO of Tamuq. “It is most fitting that someone of his stature and accomplishment is recognised by this professorship carrying the name of one of the most influential engineering firms in Texas - Zachry.”
As vice-dean at Texas A&M at Qatar, Masad provides oversight of academic programmes, research and operations. He was previously assistant dean for research and graduate studies and has established and organised several research and community service programmes at Tamuq in collaboration with the industry and other academic institutions.
Masad’s research focuses on microstructure characterisation and constitutive modelling of materials, transport in porous media, granular mechanics and image analysis techniques. He has active research groups and programmes in the US and Qatar and published more than 300 technical papers and reports.
