Ooredoo will enhance and expand its portfolio of cyber security services to meet the growing needs of Qatar’s banking sector, according to its top official.
“We are looking to upgrade our dedicated security portfolio to meet the needs of Qatar’s banking sector, starting with our suite of managed security services,” Waleed al-Sayed, chief executive, Ooredoo Qatar, told the recently concluded second Information Security Conference for the Financial Sector in Qatar, organised by the Qatar Central Bank.
These new developments demonstrate that Ooredoo is a fully-fledged managed security service provider with extensive capabilities which are unique in Qatar, he added.
Ooredoo has recently introduced features such as managed SOC (Security Operations Centre), managed firewall offering 24x7 monitoring and management of security devices, and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), for monitoring customers’ assets and event correlation.
Ooredoo has already introduced a range of innovative business security services to Qatar, including a distributed denial of service attack (DDoS), cloud security services and out-of-country disaster recovery solutions.
The estimated annual cost of global cybercrime is more than $1tn per year, with healthcare, government, education, banking and retail shops being the most targeted institutions.
During the conference, many companies approached Ooredoo to discuss a new wave of solutions available to prevent hacking and online theft of information, and, based on feedback, Ooredoo will reboot its portfolio, with a particular view to help protect small and medium-sized businesses in Qatar, which are increasingly being targeted.
Ooredoo’s assistant director of Digital ICT Solutions Muhamad Mudassar, delivered a speech on cyber security threats, where it highlighted its wide range of managed security services and cloud-based solutions.
