The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Qatar Shell to promote the ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar’ programme nationwide, in all independent and private secondary schools.
The ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar’ programme, delivered by Bedaya Centre and Qatar Shell, is an initiative that inspires young Qataris to become entrepreneurs by enhancing their business knowledge and equipping them with valuable business skills, including teamwork and strategic thinking.
As part of this agreement, the SEC will be the educational partner of this important programme and will support the implementation of the ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar’ in participating schools. The SEC will also support the dedication of each student’s time of approximately 30 voluntary hours within their school activities to participate in the programme.
The ‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar’ programme has different levels for high school and university students and is made up of three parts : The Ethical Business Challenge, which tests participants’ ability to balance the economic, environmental and social performance of their company; the Business Simulation which familiarises students with general business concepts from inception through to trading, finance, sales, marketing and production; and the Grand Finals, where universities and school groups compete with other teams to demonstrate their business skills with the highest scoring teams winning the overall competition.
Reema Abukhadija, director of the SEC’s Educational Supervision Office, said:  “Our support to the Enterprise Challenge Qatar reflects our belief in the importance of spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among students, enabling them to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to face the challenges of the 21st century. Students will apply those skills to solve practical problems and move forward towards a knowledge-based economy, particularly throughout secondary education, which represents an essential stage of the students’ education process.”
Mohammed Abu Jbara, corporate social responsibility manager, Qatar Shell, said: “‘Enterprise Challenge Qatar’ is one of Qatar Shell’s key corporate social responsibility partnerships aiming to ‘Impact Qatar’ by supporting the Qatar National Vision 2030. The importance of this memorandum of understanding is that it will enable the positive impact of the Enterprise Challenge Qatar programme to reach an even larger number of students in secondary independent and private schools.”
The Enterprise Challenge Qatar programme for schools will commence in January 2016 and culminate in a grand final competition in April 2016.
